I worked myself into a “funk” the other day, and at the end of the night I found myself simply wanting to have a beer, relax in my favorite dive bar, and vibe on some old-school hip-hop. While some of us were outside enjoying a cigarette, the conversation got steered toward photography, and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to talk about some of the things that I had learned from the books that Amanda had given me. I was particularly impressed with how much of a difference it made in the over-all feel of a photograph when you place the subject properly off-center. So while the rest of the smokers were conversing with each other I took this chance to take a few candid pictures to demonstrate. I didn’t think much about it, but when I woke up the next day and transferred the photos to my laptop, I quickly found that I had actually gotten a few good shots out of the night.
