While at a local covered bridge (one of the few left in area) we seen they had come and redone the bridge. Repainted the outside and reinforced the bridge itself. Yet, oddly enough, I was happy to see they did not change anything on the inside. I should say they did not remove the graffiti, paint over it, or sand anything done. Some of these carved initials, some with hearts around them symbolizing love, have been present at this bridge since the 1980’s.

No, people should not be vandalizing such a place, especially when these bridges are few and far between. But I look at it as a part of the history of the covered bridge. For even if these “couples” did not make it; at one time they loved one another and that symbol is still there…
